  • The Echo-X is a digital delay mini-pedal with unprecedented real-time control over crucial parameters, and now comes with a ‘gate’ switch option – giving the world’s first gated echo effect!

It’s the echo version of the Reverb-X.

    NOISE GATE

Situated on the main top panel, with the ‘gate’ pushbutton pressed, all echo repeats are cut when you stop playing. This gives some great unusual rhythmical delay effects when a choppy guitar cuts off a repeating delay in a rhythmical pattern. Or a quick, high-feedback delay - normally wildly out-of-control - gets attached to each single note you play, shutting off into edgy silence in each gap.

Suddenly, for the first time, it feels like you’re in control of echo feedback!

Start playing again and the gate opens – with the brand new signal oscillating.

    OTHER CONTROLS

It comes with an Igor pressure pad controller which can adjust delay speed, amount of feedback, or work as a ‘send’ control; while your sound is dry, as you press on Igor, the signal is diverted through the pedal’s delay circuitry. When you release Igor you carry on playing dry while the diverted notes echo away on their own… An incredibly useful and expressive feature for everyday use!

The Echo-X has 540ms of delay time available, and has level, rate, feedback, input, and volume controls. ‘LVL’ goes from no echo, to slightly louder than the input signal. ‘FBK’ meanwhile goes from a single repeat to runaway overloading feedback oscillation.

‘INPT’ governs the input signal, and if this is too loud the red ‘overload’ LED comes on and it needs to be turned down if you want to avoid the clean signal distorting. The volume knob however can push the volume back up.

The Echo-X is housed in a Rainger FX mini-pedal enclosure, with all sockets mounted on the top end panel. The Igor mode switches are on the bottom end panel.

    IGOR

Getting its name from a previous incarnation as the Dr Freakenstein Fuzz accessory, Igor – a small, light, pressure-sensitive pad – is dual-sensitivity and works by foot or by hand. It plugs into a mini-jack socket in the top end panel.

  • ECHO-X MANUAL

What is the chip used in it?

    It’s a PT2399.

Does the ‘fbk/rate’ switch work when the ‘send’ is engaged?

No – the ‘send’ bypasses the ‘fbk/rate’ switch.

Using the ‘send’ control, can I add to the repeating echo multiple times?

Yes – you can use it like a basic looper, though the echoes slowly morph…

Can I seperate the wet and dry signal – to have only delay?

    No

Can I use a regular expression pedal with it instead of Igor?

Most probably yes, but you’ll need a ¼” to minijack adaptor.

Can I use 5v CV instead of Igor?

You can. It works a bit strangely, but you can do it (if you have the right adaptor/lead to fit the minijack socket).

What is the current draw for this pedal?

    29mA

    IGOR:

Can the same Igor work different Rainger FX pedals?

    Yes.

Can I use it with my hand?

Yes – it has dual sensitivity.

    What are the dimensions?

    55mm in diameter, 8mm thick.

    Does Igor use a battery?

    No – it’s entirely passive.

I’ve lost my Igor – what can I do? Get in touch…

Can Igor be used in place of an expression pedal for different makes of effects pedal?

Quite possibly – though all regular expression pedals vary in resistance, and often with wiring. Of course you’d need a minijack to ¼” adaptor. Igor works pretty good with Electro Harmonix stuff BTW.

What is the resistance of Igor?

He goes from about 1M Ohm down to tens of Ohms.

Does it have a mono or stereo minijack plug?

It has a stereo one, though the ‘sleeve’ tab is not connected.
